Quality Performance that Exceeds Expectations
Family, Entrepeneurship, and Transition

Our story is one of entrepreneurship and transformation, focused around family.  It started with Dave and Wendy, who were childhood sweethearts, getting married in 1985.  They decided that they would combine their strengths and gifts to build the lawn service Dave had started two years prior.  As a husband and wife team, they focused all their efforts to establish this business that would transform through many phases.

What started as a small landscaping business, providing mowing and aerating services, grew into a full blown lawn service enterprise. We began to offer sod installation, the construction of retaining walls, and chemical treatment program; the complete management of an entire landscape.

The business once again started to transition as underground cable and fiber companies came through our city, leaving nearly every yard in Lincoln in disarray.  This led our landscape management vocation to now also accommodate full landscape restoration services.

At this point we became the largest restoration landscape contractor in the city.  Our initial two-person team now employed five separate crews.  One dream of every entrepreneur is to employ a great, hard working team.  This also comes with a responsibility for them to obtain enough work to sustain a satisfying livelihood. After 3 years of restoring lawns around Lincoln from the cable and fiber companies, work began to subside.  We began to analyze the future of our business, and were searching for ways to keep our workers employed, especially throughout the winter months.

In an effort to obtain more work, we partnered up with a remodeling contractor to undertake a complete rehab of units in a major apartment complex in town.  What could seem like a total switch in our business was really a pivot to grow in our entrepreneurial efforts and provide more work for our employees. Much to our satisfaction, this began to provide year-round work for our crew.  We even ended up transferring all of our lawn and landscape business accounts to one of our workers.  This allowed him to achieve a dream of starting his own business, and we were able to focus solely on our new adventure on rehabbing and remodeling apartment units.

Our services included the complete repair and installation of drywall, counters, and cabinets; repairing appliances; painting, and deep cleaning so the unit was like new. Fully ready for the new tenant from top to bottom.  After several years, we ended up turning over 200 individual apartments.

The ebb and flow of business is familiar to any entrepreneur. While we were excelling at our newest business venture, our contracts always seemed to have an end date.  At times when work would subside, we found ourselves once again in a position to adapt.  We wanted to find a way to merge our experience with the ideas of how we would best transition our business to serve our community in a more constant way.

This was a turning point for us as a business and as a family.  We realized that after 25 years of adapting and changing, the one constant that our work had was related to the business of property improvement and maintenance.  We had grown to develop a deep knowledge and experience in this area, along with the art of customer satisfaction.

Our family had grown along with our experience. We had 3 children, all who understood from a young age what it means to own and operate a small family business.  Growing up around our work provided a training ground for developing a deep work ethic in the life outlook of our kids. As we all worked together as a family, we began to notice that our middle son, Zach had an entrepreneurial passion just as his dad did from a young age.  Our children grew into adults.  Jeremiah and Hayley took their work ethic and passion into becoming teachers, and Zach joined the family business.  This was an opportunity to take our ventures to the next level.

We knew we wanted to go forward as a family enterprise and use all our experiences and skills to achieve more than we ever had thus far.  This took one word: focus.  You may have heard it before, that the biggest enemy of great is good.  We had created a livelihood being “good” at many, many things.  But at this turning point in our business, with our son joining us full time, we decided that it was time to be great.  To buckle down with a couple things, instead of many.  To become great. To become the best!

This led us to hone in on one of the biggest needs of the commercial property world.  And that is an exceptional cleaning service.  A cleaning service that is professional, systematic, consistent, dependable and of the highest quality.  We had developed a business with our family that had each and every one of those qualities.

This brings us to today.  For the last five years, we have focused on that very cleaning service, Clean-Prep.  We offer a complete deep clean, turn-over prep (including carpets) of properties that owners want to sell or rent.
